Founders Meeting for AWOCS in February
Dear Teachers and Administrators,
The steering committee for the Association of Waldorf-Oriented Charter Schools met on Thursday, December 8th at the home of Bonnie River in Petaluma, California. Those present included Bonnie, David Hill, Rainbow Rosenbloom, Merrill Badger, George Hoffecker, Donna Burgess, and Chip Romer. Patrick Wakeford-Evans, from Rudolf Steiner College, also attended to support our work.
We decided to convene a Founders meeting Thursday/ Friday, February 23rd/24th, at Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California, following the yearly teacherís conference. This meeting will serve as a short conference, primarily for administrators, lead teachers, and board presidents interested in the founding of our new association.
This mini-conference will be loosely organized to allow for the input of those present. We are eager to meet and create the infrastructure that will furnish much-needed support and networking both for existing charter schools and those yet to be born. We expect to build on this founding, with the first full conference taking place at the beginning of 2007.
Many are excited about the prospects for this new organization, feeling that the time is right to create a community in which Waldorf-Oriented Charter Schools can thrive. We envision an organization that will provide resources, offer mentoring, perform evaluations, recruit teachers, lobby state officials, and, most importantly, build a solid bridge with the larger Waldorf community.
Please send an e-mail to email@example.com with your thoughts; also provide the names and positions of those whom will be attending. There is no cost attached to this mini-conference, and we will also try to help with accommodations.
For the steering committee,
Rainbow Rosenbloom, Live Education! founding director
Bonnie River, Live Oak Charter School
David Hill, Monterey Bay Charter School
Tim Connolly, Journey Charter School
Merrill Badger, Mountain Oak Charter School
George Hoffecker, Charter School Consultant Services
Donna Burgess, Charter School Consultant Services
