Invitation to the first Waldorf-Inspired Charter Schools Conference

Dear Waldorf-Inspired Charter School Teachers and Administrators,

As you know, the number of Charter Schools using Waldorf methods has been growing rapidly over the years. In response to this trend, a small steering committee met on Friday, October 14th to discuss forming a new alliance for teachers and administrators of these schools.

To spearhead this movement, we are happy to announce the inaugural Waldorf-Inspired Charter School Conference. With teachers and administrators from as many as 25 Charter Schools in Oregon, California, Arizona, and New Mexico possibly attending, we are enthusiastic about creating an annual conference to support this unique and fast-growing segment of the Waldorf community.

For this year’s conference, we have planned to include supportive break-out sessions to discuss Waldorf curriculum as it aligns with state requirements and to have strategic meetings for developing creative ways to meet “No Child Left Behind” standards. Since up to 200 teachers and administrators could attend this conference, it also promises to be an excellent opportunity for networking among colleagues. We welcome your input as we continue to develop topics and itinerary for the conference.

Monterey Bay Charter School in Pacific Grove, California has offered to host the first Conference on February 18 – 20, 2006. We hope to keep costs low by helping to accommodate visiting colleagues in local homes with meals supplied.

At this point, we need to gauge the level of excitement for this long overdue initiative and get an idea of how many participants each school will be sending to the first conference. Please direct your responses, along with topic ideas and other input to…???

For the steering committee,

Rainbow Rosenbloom, Live Education! founding director,
Bonnie River, Live Oak Charter School,
David Hill, Monterey Bay Charter School

Dear friends,

I would like to include Tim, George, and Merrill as part of our Steering Committe. This is only a commitment to help envision our initiative, and to help plan the conference. I know Bonnie has some conflicts, but still wants to be involved. We have to start somewhere!

Each of you brings so much, I would be grateful for your participation. Let me know if you have suggestions as to the wording of this newsletter; we would like to send it out tomorrow, if possible.

I look forward to hearing from you!
